Sweden’s Princess Estelle baptized in royal ceremony

STOCKHOLM – The future heir to the Swedish throne has been baptized amid pomp and pageantry in the chapel of the Royal Palace in Stockholm.

Royals from the Scandinavian countries and the Netherlands were among the guests who witnessed the ceremony Tuesday.

Three-month-old Princess Estelle Silvia Ewa Mary is second in the line of succession as the first-born child of Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel.

The little princess remained mostly still as Archbishop Anders Wejryd poured water on her head from the chapel’s 17th century silver font.

In Sweden, the monarch is the head of state with mostly ceremonial functions. The current dynasty was founded in 1810 when French marshal Jean Baptiste Bernadotte was elected as successor to the throne.
