City of Winnipeg opens warming centres in extreme cold

WINNIPEG — Winnipeggers continued to stay indoors or bundle up as the deep freeze continued on Sunday.

The City of Winnipeg has opened its “warm up” facilities, inviting citizens in to get relief from the cold. The facilities include indoor swimming pools, leisure centres and public libraries.

After an unseasonably warm start to 2016, Winnipeg and large parts of Manitoba has experienced frosty temperatures into the -30 C range.

Environment Canada has also issued an Extreme Cold Warning for the city as temperatures dropped down to -34 C with windchill and is expected to dip further down in the evening.
