Metis Nation of Saskatchewan election may be held in fall

Elections are still in the future for the Metis Nation of Saskatchewan.

After months of not making quorum at meetings, enough of the provincial Metis Council came together Wednesday afternoon to move the agenda forward.

While the forced cancellations of the planned elections at end of May is being upheld, council has approved a process that will eventually lead to elections, probably in the fall.

Metis Nation president Robert Doucette says he believes they’ve turned a corner.

He says it was good to see the provincial council working together again to ensure that the voice of citizens will be heard.

Part of the process involves more meetings including a Metis Nation annual general meeting in Prince Albert on June 16 and 17.

During that meeting the date for a new election will be determined.
