TORONTO – Smoke bombs disrupted commuters in Montreal Thursday after they were set off at multiple points in the city’s subway system.
Public transportation underground was cut off so officials could investigate the mess, creating a nightmarish commute at the peak of morning rush hour.
Stations were filled with smoke at key transfer points and when the subways resumed, more attacks were reported, according to the Canadian Press.

Smoke bombs are fireworks that produce clouds of smoke once ignited. They were initially created in the 1800s. The smoke bomb blurs vision for a short period of time.

There are a handful of smoke bomb designs, from smoke balls, candles and canisters. The common thread between the options is that once the device is activated, its ingredients will create a thick cloud of smoke for minutes at a time.
