SLAVE LAKE, Alta. – People in the Slave Lake, Alta., area are to hold a ceremony Tuesday to mark the devastating wildfires last year that ravaged the town.
The focus of the event is on how the community has bounced back from a disaster that destroyed hundreds of homes and forced thousands of people to flee to safety.

Premier Alison Redford is to attend, along with representatives of the Red Cross and RCMP.
Andrea McDonald, one of the organizers of the event, says they want to show the character and resiliency of the town and its people.
She says more than 200 development permits have been issued and more than 100 homes are in the process of being rebuilt.
The cause of the wildfires, which caused almost $1 billion in damage, is being investigated by RCMP to determine if any were deliberately set.
