Consider how 103 year old Bill Whiteside starts every day:  climbing onto his stationary bike and pedaling for 10 minutes.

Whiteside also makes a point of taking the stairs whenever he can to his third floor apartment in a Calgary senior’s building.

Instead, he credits his longevity to good genes and getting up by 5:00 each morning.

Whiteside is a Second World War veteran honoured for his service by the government of France.

And he figures there’s another reason why he’s seen so many new years come and go.

Whiteside is thankful for taking the advice of a doctor 30 years ago.

“He thought that I should have a glass of red wine with dinner each night,” said Whiteside. “I haven’t missed.”
