MONTREAL – It’s that time of year again; holiday festivities have come and gone and the Christmas tree sits forlornly in the corner, bereft of presents, pine needles littering the floor.
Ornaments are being carefully packed away in boxes and many trees end up on the curbside, to be taken to the dump.
But the City of Montreal is hoping residents will chose to dispose of their trees in an environmentally responsible manner this year.

To that effect, the city will be organizing two days for natural Christmas tree pick-ups: Monday, Jan. 11 and Monday, Jan. 18.
Trees must be stripped of their ornaments and brought to the curbside in front of the owners’ residence before 7 a.m.
Every year, some 25,000 Christmas trees are brought to the Saint-Michel Environmental Complexe to be processed in to wood chips. The green waste is then converted into energy.
Residents in a hurry to do away with their natural Christmas trees can always drop them off at one of the six Montreal Ecocentre locations.
For more information on Christmas tree pick-up, citizens can call 311 or consult the City of Montreal website.
