Search and rescue crews are sounding the alarm after six people became stuck on Sumas Mountain overnight.

The group started their journey on two four-by-fours around 2 p.m. on Monday, but were only taken off the mountain within the last hour.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Central Fraser Valley Search and Rescue say this is a case of not being prepared. The trucks didn’t have proper tire chains which led the first vehicle to get stuck. The second truck came up to help but got stuck as well.

They were rescued early this morning, cold and tired, but uninjured.

The search manager is warning people who go ATVing in this weather to come prepared with extra clothes, food, water and anything they may need for an overnight trip.
