Chrissy Matheson, spokesperson for the Department of Justice, says the tribunal has set a Provincial judge’s 2014-15 base salary at $231,500 with a cost of living adjustment for each subsequent year based on the Consumer Price Index for the previous fiscal year.

Under the Provincial Court Act, Matheson says the Executive Council has no authority to question or change the panel’s decision and that the recommendation is binding.

Even with the salary increase, judges in Nova Scotia are still below the national average of $242,637.
