WINNIPEG — Uber may not have made its way to Winnipeg yet, but people are always looking for a faster way to hitch a ride. A new app called The Ride might be the answer. The free app that launched Monday “e-hails” taxis or finds and compares licensed taxi and transit options.

“You can get a comparison to see it’s going to be $14 and 20 minutes via cab or it’s going to be $3 and 35 minutes via public transit,” Nick Quain, co-founder said.
Quain said this wasn’t necessarily a response Uber, more so an attempt to accommodate people who want easy access to transportation.
“Millennials are driving less, they have a car later in life, they’re using a variety of transportation around town,” Quain said.
“We’re taking advantage of how the taxi industry is now very open to different types of innovation and partnerships that 5 years ago they probably wouldn’t have.”
The Ride will be donating part of their proceeds to MADD.
