Shake-up at BC Liberal Party headquarters

VICTORIA – The B.C. Liberal Party is undergoing a major shakeup, with two senior staff now heading for the door.

Executive director Chad Pederson announced his departure Saturday, something he confirmed on Twitter.

“Leaving @bcliberals after a decade of service to pursue a new opportunity. Wishing Premier & team the best to May 2013 & beyond!” he wrote in one tweet.

“An honour to have served with volunteers across BC to build a strong grassroots organization. Thanks for your support!” he added in another.

Pederson was named executive director of the party in December 2010, a notable promotion from his previous role with the party as director of communications.

Pederson’s roots in the party trace back more than 15 years, beginning as president of the Simon Fraser University B.C. Young Liberals.

On Saturday, B.C. Liberal Party director of communications Jehnifer Benoit also announced her departure.

“Gave notice, decided 2 expand skills & seek opportunities in private sector. All the best 2 Premier @BCLiberals for 2013 & beyond!” Benoit wrote on Twitter.

In a later tweet, Benoit denied the accusation she had been forced out.

“Lets be clear – I resigned, I was not forced out,” she said. “I am seeking new opportunities, personal decision. Wish @BCLiberals all the best!”

Benoit took the job with the B.C. Liberals only recently.
