Proposed legislation could add indigenous culture and history education in Manitoba schools

WINNIPEG –  Manitoba is introducing new legislation to make sure students learn about indigenous history and culture.

This proposal comes after the release of the Truth and Reconciliation Commissions’s final report last summer and would include information about significant treaties.

Manitoba’s education minister James Allum said the province has a responsibility to educate students about what went on in the residential schools.

If passed, the legislation would require the education policy framework be reviewed and revised every three years.
