Tory visiting Paris for climate change summit next week

TORONTO – Mayor John Tory will lead a delegation to Paris next week to attend the Climate Change Conference.

Deputy Mayor Pam McConnell, Tory’s Chief of Staff, Christopher Eby and the City’s Director of Environment and Energy, Jim Baxter will join the mayor as part of the Toronto delegation.

“Whatever the arguments may be about exactly how much this is caused by human beings and so on, or exactly how much difference Torontonians can make, if there is a problem of this kind that  is being contributed to by human beings and if there is something we can do about it, then we should do that,” said Tory.

Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson and Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre will also be travelling to Paris, and together, they will discuss how they will “expand their influence both internationally and within Canada.”

“The more I can go and work with our other governments who are going to be there … the more I can go and learn ideas from other cities about what they’ve done to conserve energy, save money and protect the environment, I think this is beneficial,” the mayor said.

“I think the real benefits in the end are obvious: we are going to help protect the environment by the different steps we take, we are going to conserve energy which is always a good thing and that in turn is going to help us save money.”

Tory will leave for Paris Wednesday evening.
