Toronto to open 35 outdoor skating rinks this weekend, another 15 next weekend

TORONTO — The city will open 35 outdoor skating rinks this weekend, with another 15 to be opened next weekend.

City officials said in a release that it was time for residents of the city to “lace up their skates” and embrace the outdoor skating season.

Depending on weather conditions, the 35 rinks will stay open until the season ends on March 20. The remaining 15 rinks will open on Dec. 5 and will operate until Feb. 28.

Some of the city’s more popular rinks include Nathan Phillips Square, the covered rink and skating path at Greenwood Park, the 250-metre ice-skating trail at Colonel Samuel Smith Park and the landscaped skating paths at Dieppe Park and Rennie Park.

More information on the rinks that are in operation, including maps to their locations, schedules, closures and educational programs can be found on the City of Toronto’s website. There are also leisure skating programs at numerous indoor arenas throughout the city listed online.

The city also offers different skating programs including hockey skills, power skating, learning to skate for adults and children, scheduled public skates, shinny games and programs for adults, caregivers with children and women-only events.
