Holiday Light Up kicks off the season in Edmonton

EDMONTON – It’s an annual tradition that brings thousands to Churchill Square to kick off the holiday season in Edmonton.

This year, Global Edmonton’s Weekend Morning News team hosted the Downtown Business Association’s Holiday Light Up event on Saturday, Nov. 14.

Upwards of 10,000 people packed Churchill Square for the event, hosted by Kent Morrison and Kevin O’Connell.

Holiday Light Up saw Churchill Square come alive with music, family entertainment and food trucks, which all led up to the main event: the arrival of Santa, the lighting of the giant Christmas tree, and the fireworks show!

The 72-foot tree was donated by Millar Western Forest Products, and was installed and decorated by EPCOR. The giant spruce is adorned with more than 14,000 LED lights. The tree will illuminate downtown nightly at dusk throughout the holiday season.
