MONTREAL – It’s not just public sector workers who have decided to take strike actions, community groups walked off the job for the second time.
Tuesday at 1 p.m., workers marched in downtown Montreal from Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard’s office to Place Émilie-Gamelin.
Demonstrators said they’ll close their doors for two days of protest so they don’t have to close permanently.
“In Montreal, we are 300 who closed their doors,” said Bruno Laprade, one of the protest’s organizers.
They rallied around the theme “I love my community, rights are something we defend” and marched in an effort to preserve daycare, education and social services.
Protesters insisted they need an additional $225 million per year to keep running.
Groups on the island of Montreal include youth organizations, women’s centres and cultural places like the Maison d’Haiti.
