KELOWNA, B.C. – The B.C. interior’s only professional dance company launched its new season Wednesday night with a preview of both classical and contemporary works to be featured this 2015/16 season.
Ballet Kelowna will feature five world premieres this season from Canadian choreographers, including the company’s own artistic director and CEO Simone Orlando.
“One of the pieces that we sampled was a piece of mine called ‘Studies of Cash’ and it’s set to all music by Johnny Cash,” says Orlando. “I’m really trying to show the diversity of the dancers here at Ballet Kelowna as well as attract, hopefully, a demographic that might really enjoy listening to that music and seeing dance performed to something a little bit different.”
The season begins with the classic holiday production of The Nutcracker, presented by The Canadian School of Ballet, featuring dancers from Ballet Kelowna.
Information about the upcoming season can be found on the Ballet Kelowna website.
