OTTAWA – The Foreign Affairs Department has updated its travel advice for Barbados to warn of the risk of being robbed while driving in the Caribbean country.
Car doors should be kept locked, windows rolled up and possessions such as handbags “safely stored at traffic lights, where you could be a target for thieves,” it says.

Similar warnings have been issued recently by other governments, citing police reports of criminals stealing valuables from cars at traffic lights or in slow or stationary traffic in parts of Bridgetown, the capital.
“Don’t place personal belongings and valuables where they can be easily reached, and consider putting everything in the boot (trunk) of the car or on the floor of the back seat,” the U.K.’s Barbados travel advisory recommends.
