A man who is allegedly involved in a home invasion in East Vancouver involving a seven-year-old child in July, was arrested and charged in Calgary on Thursday.

Vancouver Police Major Crime Section arrested Rouslan Erchov in Calgary and charged the 28-year-old with robbery, use of an imitation firearm, break and enter, and unlawful confinement.

The home invasion happened on June 17 and according to VPD, involved two men dressed in construction gear who forced their way into a home in the 3300-block of Dieppe Street in East Vancouver.

The robbery garnered a lot of attention because one of the men, who was carrying a gun, pointed it at the seven-year-old girl and demanded money. She then went to her parents’ bedroom and handed over a jar of change.

“It’s very unique there’s a small child that was victimized during a home robbery or home invasion,” VPD Sgt. Randy Fincham said.

“This was a heinous robbery, which will have an impact on a seven-year-old child and her family for the rest of their lives.”

A man in the home was hurt and taken to hospital for a non-life threatening injury to his head.

Fincham said a number of undisclosed items were stolen from the home, including a rare and unique watch — a Rolex Yachtmaster II steel and rose-gold watch.

On July 23, police released images of the two suspects and asked the public’s help in identifying the pair. A number of tips were received and investigators expanded their search to include other provinces.

Erchov is in custody in Calgary and it is not yet known if he will be taken back to B.C. to appear in court. VPD Const. Brian Montague said Erchov has a criminal record that reaches into Alberta, Ontario and Quebec.

There is still one suspect at large and police asks anyone with information to call the  VPD Major Crime Section at 604-717-2541 or Crime Stoppers.
