When relatives of Martinez and Altamonte Springs police broke the tragic news to the mother on Wednesday, she claimed she didn’t remember the event.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“She was informed of the passing of her husband and her son – she does not remember the crash and at that time, didn’t remember the family members either,” told Lt. Rob Pelton of the Altamonte Springs police department to WESH.

All relatives of Martinez can do now is wait and hope that her memory returns, which is likely said one Florida EMS director.

“[Amnesia] almost always resolves, just sort of spontaneously, just out of the blue – suddenly people start remembering,” told Dr. Todd Husty to WESH.

“It’s likely she’s had head trauma. That’s the most common reason for someone to have amnesia would be head trauma. But physiological trauma can do that too,” he also said.
