Breakfast Buzz: Getting rid of tipping

SASKATOON – Tipping is often criticized for creating some awkward moments between customers and servers. But what would happen if tipping was removed completely?

A handful of restaurants in North America have adopted the model used in some European countries and Australia, where they raise their prices in order to pay their staff a more liveable wage. The results have been varying: Bar Macro in Pittsburgh boasts tripling their profits since getting rid of tips, while Smoke ‘n Water in Parksville, B.C. ditched the policy after three months due to customer complaints.
