Impressive voter turnout at advanced polls in Beausejour

BEAUSEJOUR, N.B. – The small riding of Beausejour, New Brunswick is boasting the highest voter turnout in the country for this past weekend’s advanced polls, with almost 25 per cent of eligible voters having already cast their ballots.

A total of 15,664 votes were cast in the riding throughout Thanksgiving weekend, according to Elections Canada, putting the riding at the top for all of Canada.

These numbers were calculated by Global News using Elections Canada numbers released on Wednesday and comparing them to the number of Canadians over 18 eligible to vote in each riding, according to the 2011 National Household Survey from Statistics Canada.

The riding of Beausejour is currently held by Liberal Domenic LeBlanc, and the current LISPOP polls for the election are predicting he will hold onto his seat. LeBlanc has served five consecutive terms in the riding.

The voter turnout at advanced polling stations for the entire country was significantly up this year over the 2011 election, with more than 3.6-million Canadians visiting the polls over the long weekend, a 71% increase over advanced poll use in 2011.
