Saskatoon produced Wapos Bay wins international animation award

Wapos Bay, a stop motion animated children’s series produced in Saskatoon and funded in part by the Saskatchewan Film Employment Tax Credit (SFETC), has won an international award. 

The series won the Best Foreign Animation Award at the 17th Annual International Film Festival in Hollywood on Sunday. 

Wapos Bay also won an award at the 2012 Kidscreen Awards in New York for Best One-Off, Special or TV Movie.

“It is an incredible honor to receive such a prestigious award,” Wapos Bay Director Dennis Jackson said in a release on winning the Best Foreign Animation Award. 

“It just shows what a Saskatchewan produced television show can achieve with a talented cast and crew!” 

The show has also been nominated 12 times for a Gemini award, winning four times. 

Wapos Bay is produced by Dark Thunder Productions and KarmaFilm in Saskatoon along with the National Film Board of Canada. 

Other partners in the production besides SFETC include the Shaw Rocket Fund, Canada Media Fund and SaskFilm.
