Flu vaccinations start Monday in Saskatchewan

REGINA – Starting next Monday (Oct. 19th) the flu vaccine will be available to all residents in Saskatchewan who are six months and older.

The free vaccine will be offered through public health clinics across the province. This year will also be the first year that pharmacists in Saskatchewan will be able to give the flu vaccination to anyone over nine years old.

Around 200 of the 360 community pharmacies plan to participate in this new initiative.

“We’re pleased pharmacists will offer this important service,” Health Minister Dustin Duncan said.

“This additional option means increased access, choice and convenience for our residents.”

Getting vaccinated is particularly recommended to people who are at high risk of getting the flu like pregnant women, young children, the elderly and persons with underlying health conditions or compromised immune systems.

The nasal flu vaccine (FluMist) is also an option for children between the ages of two and 17 and will be available from public health clinics before the end of October.
