HAMPSTEAD — Hampstead recognized the last class of the town’s police department Tuesday night in a formal ceremony.
Bagpipes greeted about a dozen former members of the department just after a town council meeting.
The town had a police department until it was merged into what became the SPVM — Montreal’s police department.
The department may have been in a tiny suburb of Montreal, but some of its work was very serious.

During the FLQ Crisis, for example, the department uncovered two unexploded bombs.
“Most of our work was prevention, not solving crimes,” said Craig Stephens, who was a lieutenant in the department.
