Alberta man receives 12-year sentence for injuring RCMP officers near Tofield

EDMONTON — An Alberta man who shot at an RCMP officer and ran over another with a truck has been sentenced to 12 years behind bars.

Michael Leslie Johnson was originally charged with 36 offences, including four counts of attempted murder in the January 2014 incident east of Edmonton.

On Jan. 6, 2014, two Alberta RCMP officers were injured during a standoff in an area between Vegreville and Tofield. One RCMP member’s arm was grazed by a bullet. He was treated and released. The other had to undergo surgery after being run over by a vehicle at the rural property.

With credit for time served, Johnson will spend another nine years and five months in custody.
