TORONTO – Tomorrow will see the beginning of the end for Yorkville’s landmark Four Seasons Hotel.
For the past week, construction crews have been stripping the name from the hotel including the roof top signage.
The existing Four Seasons Hotel was built in 1971. The building enhanced the surrounding coffee-shop lined strip into a luxury destination for residents, socialites and celebrities alike. It has often been referred to as “Hollywood North” because of its appeal to celebrity inhabitants over the years, especially during the annual Toronto Film Festivals in September.

“It’s sad and it’s happy. An end of an era for this hotel but the beginning of a new era for Seasons in Toronto,” says Damitrios Zarikos, general manager of the hotel’s Toronto site.
Today’s hotel business is competitive. While older luxury buildings are showing their age, developers are using space, modern designs and technology to sway clientele.
Developer Camrost-Felcorp will retrofit the old Four Seasons Hotel at 21 Avenue Rd. to The New Residences of Yorkville Condominiums.
The existing hotel will be gutted. The 380-room building will host a new sleek 490-suite luxury condominium. New residents will be treated to 30,000-square-feet of floor-to-ceiling window suites, spas, restaurants and shops.
The Four Season won’t be far. The new building will live up the street and open its new doors in the summer of 2012. The new building promises to be the hotel chain’s most impressive, luxurious property to date.
