Environment Canada issued a wind warning for parts of the province Sunday where gusts as high as 100 kilometres an hour were expected.
The warning affected areas of northern and southern Alberta including Edmonton, Lethbridge and Medicine Hat.
At the Calgary International Airport winds as high as 74 km/h were recorded.
Although no warning was issued in Calgary a fallen tree was reported at 28 Avenue and 29 Street in the city’s southwest.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Erik de Groot said areas under a warning need to be aware that high winds can cause serious damage.
Peak winds in Alberta were recorded at Nakiska Ridgetop at 116 km/h.
“People have to be aware that loose objects may fly around,” explained de Groot. “So patio furniture and stuff like that but when we get really strong winds like this it can also cause damage to buildings and vehicles.”
Conditions are expected to improve throughout the day as the system moves into Saskatchewan
