HALIFAX- Transport Canada is looking for a winter caretaker for the retired Princess of Acadia.
The former Digby to Saint John ferry is berthed in Dartmouth until Transport Canada disposes of the vessel or has it scrapped.
A request for proposals posted this week to a tender website used by the government is calling for a contractor to move the vessel to an eastern Canadian port – and prepare it for winter.

The contract specifies that the successful bidder would have to provide around the clock security for the ship from October 31 until the end of March.
It also specifies that the contractor should drain all water, sewage and other fluids from the vessel to make it ready for “cold-iron storage.”
The ship crossed the Bay of Fundy for more than 40 years before being retired.
It was replaced by a newer vessel, the MV Fundy Rose, which went into service earlier this year.
