Ed Sheeran gives a hilarious reason God made him a musician

Ed Sheeran brought the house down Wednesday night when he explained to Stephen Colbert why God had made him a musician.

The red-headed Brit appeared on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert and was prompted to talk about the stutter he had as a child.

“If I get under pressure, it comes back. But ya, I had a stutter,” the “Thinking Out Loud” performer said.

He went on to explain that the removal of a birth mark on his eye in his youth caused the issue.

“I was a very odd child. I had big, big blue National Health glasses, ginger hair, stutter,” he told the Ed Sullivan Theater crowd. “I [don’t have] an ear drum on one side so I never went swimming.”

That’s when Sheeran nailed the punch line with an incredibly optimistic, and downright hilarious, view of his early challenges.

“My way of looking at it is that the reason I became a musician is God looked down and said ‘You probably need some help getting laid.'”

The joke even had funnyman Colbert speechless — for a moment at least.

Sheeran also performed the Bill Withers classic “Ain’t No Sunshine” during the episode.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert can be watched weeknights on Global TV in Canada. Please check your local listings.
