Leitao confident the Caisse will build two rail lines in Montreal

MONTREAL – Finance Minister Carlos Leitao told a conference in New York that he’s confident the Caisse de Dépôt will build two rail lines to help improve infrastructure in the Montreal region.

Leitao told the Bloomberg Canadian Fixed Income Conference that the fund manager is currently in the planning stages for two rail lines and he expects they will be able to proceed with the $5 billion projects.

“The Caisse will be the builder and then the owner and operator of these train lines and they say they will be able to generate a commercially profitable return from this activity,” said Carlos Leitao, Quebec Finance Minister.

The two projects are a public transit system on Montreal’s new Champlain Bridge, and a rail line from the downtown core to the city’s main airport.
