A Wichita, Kansas man has been arrested after kidnapping a 15-year-old with autism and torturing him with jumper cables.
The alleged incident happened Sunday morning while the young teen was walking about 0.2 miles from the suspect’s home. That’s when Robert McDowell, 58, approached him and pointed a gun to his back.
McDowell allegedly brought the unidentified boy to his residence where he tied the 15-year-old up with his own shoelaces and clipped jumper cables to his ears.
Local police said the autistic teen was tortured multiple times.
The suspect claims the 15-year-old boy’s friends robbed him.
The teen’s family is upset by the incident.
“That’s just wrong. A 15-year-old autistic boy,” said the boy’s sister, who didn’t want to be identified, to KSNW.
“You can’t do anything. You feel discriminated… just helpless and really, really enraged is I guess all I can say,” she added.
The teen was sent to hospital after being released and calling 911. He sustained injuries to his ears.
McDowell has been charged with multiple felonies, including kidnapping and abduction.
