Derik Lord denied parole after participating in 1992 murders: Timeline

Derik Lord has been denied parole for the seventh time, following his participation in the 1992 murders of  Doris Leatherbarrow, and mother, Sharon Huenemann.

Below is a timeline of the events in the case:

October 5, 1990: Derik Lord and David Muir, both Victoria high school students, travel to Tsawwassen and kill their classmate’s grandmother, Doris Leatherbarrow, and mother, Sharon Huenemann.

November 1990: Derik Lord and David Muir are arrested and charged in connection with the double murder. Darren Huenemann, son of murder victim Sharon, is also arrested in connection with the murder.

June 1991: Darren Huenemann’s trial begins. He is tried for first degree murder for hiring his classmates Lord and Muir to kill his mother and grandmother for inheritance money.

June 1991: Darren Huenemann is found guilty of two counts of first degree murder, which is still serving time at a prison in Quebec.

May 29, 1992: Derik Lord’s and David Muir’s trial begins at the New Westminster Supreme Court.

June 3, 1992: Derik Lord and David Muir are found guilty of first-degree murder.

October 6, 1992: Derik Lord is sentenced to life in prison.

April 2002: David Muir is eligible and files for parole. He is granted day parole.

May 2002: Derik Lord becomes eligible and files for parole for the first time. He is denied.

2003: David Muir is granted full parole.

November 2004: Derik Lord files for parole a second time. He is denied.

December 2006: Derik Lord files for parole for the third time. He is denied.

April 2009: Derik Lord files for parole for the fourth time. He is denied.

May 2011: Derik Lord files for parole for the fifth time. He is denied.

December 2011: Derik Lord filed for parole for the sixth time. He was denied. 

March 2012: Derik Lord denied parole for the seventh time.
