BC SPCA adoptathon hopes to find new homes for dozens of animals seized in cruelty investigations

Dozens of horses, ducks, llamas and even a goat are up for adoption at the BC SPCA’s Surrey location today.

The BC SPCA’s adoptathon aims to find new homes for animals that were seized in recent animal cruelty investigations.

Animals available for adoption include 16 horses that were among 57 animals seized from a Surrey property last month and brought back to health by the SPCA.

“They were emaciated…you could see every rib and every bone,” said BC SPCA senior animal protection officer Eileen Drever. “Their hooves were really badly neglected. Now they’re good and we recommended charges last week.”

Drever says placing these animals in the right home can be challenging.

“We’re accepting applications to adopt along with a sealed bid,” she said. “They may not necessarily go to the highest bidder. We want to match them up with the correct family.”

The adoptathon will take place from noon to 4 p.m. at BC SPCA’s Surrey location at 16748 50 Ave.
