Man assaulted, bear sprayed in a Saskatoon park

SASKATOON – Two people are facing charges after an alleged assault in Saskatoon Monday evening. Police were called to a park in the 3200-block of Ortana Street around 10 p.m. CT for a report a man had been physically assaulted and bear sprayed by three men.

Two people witnessed the assault and when they intervened, the suspects fled towards 11th Street.

The witnesses told police that prior to the attack, they noticed the men speaking to the driver of a vehicle and thought it was suspicious. They were able to give investigating officers the license plate number.

The vehicle was spotted a short time later by a canine officer near 11th Street and Circle Drive and he was able to make a traffic stop.

Two people were taken into custody and a can of bear spray seized. The passenger was wearing a bulletproof vest and had a concealed collapsible baton.

The 23-year-old man is facing charges of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, and carrying a concealed weapon along with two counts of breach of probation.

A 24-year-old woman has been charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to the public.
