2012 Boonstock music festival lineup unveiled

The lineup for the 2012 Boonstock Music Festival was announced Wednesday morning in Edmonton.

Over 30 international bands and Djs are confirmed to play this years festival which runs June 29- July 1 near Gibbons, AB. Among them is Canadian band Billy Talent, American metal band Korn and Swedish DJ Avicii.

This is Boonstocks eighth year and President Colin Kobza says he is excited about this year’s lineup and the growth of the festival.

“We’re confirming larger and larger headliners and supporting acts.” adding, “The artists are enjoying the festival, our backstage hospitality is really good, that’s a big part of being able to confirm the large artists, and obviously the growth in the festival is fun to play in front of.”

Kobza says the Gibbons community is a great place for Boonstock to call home.

“It’s a grassroots festival, a lot of the volunteer base comes locally, Gibbons is a huge supporting community. Sometimes the Mac store and the Foodtown, they get a little overwhelmed but for the most part I think Gibbons is home to Boonstock music festival.”

New to the festival this year will is the Boontown Exposition and Tradeshow. This area will allow concert goers to browse through tents featuring merchandise and food. It is also an opportunity for local companies to showcase their products and promote Alberta’s hot economy.

60,000 people are expected to partake in the three day festival, making it western Canadas largest Canada Day festival.
