Man sentenced to 5 years in attack at west Edmonton business

EDMONTON — An Edmonton man who forced his way into a west-end business and slashed an employee’s neck has been sentenced to five years behind bars.

Allan Andkilde, 63, was sentenced Tuesday for the July 2014 incident at Helm Property Management on Stony Plain Road and 155 Street.

On July 14, 2014, Andkilde got into an argument with the staff about a property he was renting. He left the building but returned a short time later with a knife, which he used to smash in the front window.

Andkilde tracked down the only person inside and slashed his neck with the knife. The victim was able to escape when police arrived.

Andkilde was originally charged with attempted murder, break and enter to commit, possession of a weapon, uttering threats, and mischief under $5,000.

On Tuesday, the attempted murder charge was withdrawn, along with the threats, weapons and mischief charges. Andkilde pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and break and enter.

The judge gave him credit for his time in pre-trial custody, so he has three years, three months and 21 days left in his sentence. He’s also barred for life from owning firearms.
