TORONTO — Tired of someone else eating your Nutella? Or maybe you have a problem that needs controlling. Well, you can now put your Nutella on lockdown, for the small price of 9.99€ or $15CDN (plus shipping and handling).
Daniel Schobloch, a German furniture designer, is the brains behind the plexi-glass contraption that keeps your chocolate-hazelnutty goodness under lock and key.
What inspired his ingenuity?
“A friend of mine told me he’s always angry on Sunday mornings because his kids are eating all the Nutella and there was nothing left,” the 35-year-old explained. “So I decided to do the Nutella lock. It was just a joke, but all his friends wanted one too, so we tried to sell it on eBay.”
Clearly, others could relate to the bitter feeling of having their sweet spread stolen. Since opening up sales internationally a few days ago, Schobloch has had orders from people in Italy, France, Austria, Switzerland, USA, Ireland, Turkey, as well as Canada.

He’s now looking for resellers worldwide to help cut down on shipping costs, which come to 15,80€ or $23CDN for Canada. And he’s also working on producing locks for other sizes of Nutella (although they likely won’t come in a 5 kg version, which is probably a good thing).
