Lawyers vote to reinstate suspended Quebec Bar president

MONTREAL – Members of the Quebec Bar have voted in favour of reinstating Lu Chan Khuong as president of their association.

Close to a thousand members met Monday night in Laval to deal with what many are calling a crisis in the legal community.

Khuong was suspended in July after reports she was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting at a Simons department store last spring.

Khuong alleged the information was leaked to the media in an effort to discredit her and sabotage her efforts to reform the association.

She has since launched a $95,000 lawsuit against the bar and the bar countered with its own suit.
