WATCH: Former journalist and political pundit Anne-Lagacé Dowson, announced Sunday that she will be running for the NDP in the riding of Papineau against Liberal leader and riding incumbent Justin Trudeau.
MONTREAL – Political analyst and former CBC/ Radio-Canada journalist Anne Lagacé Dowson announced on Sunday that she will be running for the NDP in the riding of Papineau in the upcoming federal election.
She will be facing stiff competition in the Papineau riding, going head-to-head with Liberal leader and riding incumbent Justin Trudeau.
Lagacé Dowson explained that she was throwing her hat in the ring because she felt that her role as a political commentator didn’t allow her to be as proactive as she would like.
“Commenting politics is no longer enough – I need to take action and take concrete steps to repair the damage caused by Stephen Harper’s bad decisions,” she said.
On why she decided to join the NDP, Lagacé Dowson expressed confidence in Tom Mulcair’s experience and his ability to bring change to Ottawa.
“I decided to the join Tom Mulcair’s NDP because I want to be part of a team that has a new vision for families and a concrete plan for economic growth that respects the environment.”
Lagacé Dowson has worked for over 20 years as a journalist, and is also a social policy consultant and has headed “ENSEMBLE pour le respect de la diversité“, a Quebec-based anti-bullying organization.
Lagacé Dowson was the NDP candidate for the riding of Westmount/Ville Marie in the 2008 federal election.
