Calgary police have charged a former Mount Royal University student president following a bank robbery.
Police took Meghan Darcy Melnyk into custody following the robbery of a southeast Servus Credit Union on Wednesday, February 29th.
Employees say a woman entered the bank that afternoon and produced a note demanding money. The note also indicated the robber had a weapon. She was given an undisclosed amount of cash and left.

Police used a Hawc helicopter to locate a suspect, who was taken into custody by police.
Melnyk is charged with robbery, possession of a prohibited weapon, and committing an indictable offence while disguised.
Police say outstanding arrest warrants for fraud, uttering forged documents and breach of probation were also executed on Melnyk at this time.
Melnyk resigned as president of the Student’s Association of Mount Royal University (SAMRU) earlier this year.
In the meantime, executive and council elections begin on Monday, March 5th, when a new president will be elected.
