WATERTON, Alta.- A wildfire that at one point prompted an evacuation alert in Alberta’s Waterton National Park was 100 per cent contained as of Friday night, and considered “under control.”

Parks Canada has been working with the U.S. National Park Service to manage the forest fire near Goat Haunt in Glacier National Park which is adjacent to Waterton.

A thermal scan Friday morning confirmed the fire is relatively quiet with only a few hot spots.

Five crews will continue to patrol the fire area and extinguish any hot spots. The fire was 10 hectares in size and approximately 100 metres wide and one kilometre long.

As of Saturday, Parks Canada said all trail closures associated with the fire will be removed. The Pass Creek Day use area will remain closed, as it’s being used as a camp for fire crews.
