OUTREMONT – A 29-year-old man was severely beaten Thursday night while exiting a BMO bank in Outremont.

The incident happened at 7:15 p.m on Van Horne and McEachran avenues.

The victim, believed to be a Hasidic Jew, was hit at least once before being sprayed with an unknown liquid.

Montreal police spokesperson Manuel Couture said the liquid was not corrosive.

He was conscious when police arrived, but was put under sedation at the hospital.

Police believe he may have suffered a blow to the head.

The motive for the attack remains unknown and nothing seems to have been stolen.

The K9 unit and investigators were on location to try and find the suspect Thursday, but were unable to do so.
