Alleged killer Nick Fontanelli back in court

WATCH ABOVE: A Montreal man charged in the death and dismemberment of his fiancee, Samantha Higgins, made his first court appearance Monday in Montreal. Kelly Greig spoke exclusively to the victim’s mother.

MONTREAL – Nick Fontanelli made his first court appearance Monday morning since being charged in the death of his fiancée Samantha Higgins.

Fontanelli, 22, is charged with first degree murder and committing an indignity to a body.

The young mother of two was last seen walking home from a friend’s house in Lasalle on July 7.

Her dismembered body was found three days later in Hinchinbrooke.

Higgins’ family and friends arrived in court early Monday morning wearing pink t-shirts in Samantha’s honour.

Higgins was wearing a pink t-shirt on the day she disappeared.

Fontanelli did not enter a plea.

He returns to court Sept. 22 where a date for a preliminary hearing will be set.
