When most people think about The Man from U.N.C.L.E. they think about, well, the men – and who can blame them? The movie stars the dashing Armie Hammer and Superman himself – Henry Cavill. But, there are some very fierce females sharing the screen with the guys and they certainly hold their own.
Elizabeth Debicki may be most recognized for her role as Jordan Baker in Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby and she’s just as feisty as Victoria Vinciguerra in The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
Debicki plays the criminal mastermind that Hammer and Cavill have to take down. And she tells us that playing “the bad guy” was tons of fun: “The best thing about being the villain is you’re always one step ahead and then you’re not and I think the flip is the fun part about playing the villain.”

Alicia Vikander has been earning rave reviews in Ex Machina. In The Man from U.N.C.L.E. she plays Gaby Teller – one of the “good guys” enlisted to help take down Vinciguerra’s criminal empire. “I think you can see how much fun we had making this film!” she laughs. And part of that fun includes the fashion, with the film set in the ’60s.
“It’s an era that I just admire because of its style,” says Vikander. Debicki echoes that sentiment: “I think it was a great era for women, I think it was really transgressive and a good era for feminism and women’s rights – which I think we capture in our film, just by the very nature of having two strong female roles.”
You can see more of these strong females when The Man from U.N.C.L.E. hits theatres August 14.
