Lethbridge – Lethbridge Regional Police have decided not to lay charges following a fight at a local playground last month.
Earlier this month, police responded to a call that a 13-year old boy had been assaulted in the playground of Ecole St. Mary School, located on the 400 block of 20th Street South.
The alleged victim reported that he had been approached by three boys and was punched and choked in an unprovoked attack. The 13-year old also said the assault was recorded.
Police obtained video surveillance and it was released to the public on July 13th to help identify the boys. It showed them riding away from the area on bikes.
The father of a 10-year old boy in the video contacted police.
After a lengthy investigation, police have determined the incident was in fact a consensual fight between the 10-year old and 13- year old over an iPhone. The two older boys recorded the incident, but did not take part in the fight.
No charges will be laid, but the 10-year old and two 15-year olds have written apology letters to the complainant for their roles in the incident.
