History: The riding was created prior to the 1997 election, and had been held by the BQ prior to Liu’s historic win. Prior to that, the riding was part of several suburban ridings north of Laval that elected a BQ MP in 1993, a PC MP in 1984 and 1988, and Liberal MPs for many elections prior to that.
