Okanagan Film Commission

KELOWNA — An indie film called “The Orchard” will be filmed in the Okanagan starting next week.

Okanagan film commissioner, Jon Summerland, says Mutant Films Inc. has chosen the valley to film a week-long portion of its independent movie starting August 10.

“Mutant Films is a Canadian production company based in Vancouver,” says Summerland. “Their focus is producing engaging and entertaining films for the international market. Mutant Films’ diverse slate of films tell great stories in unique ways that resonate with audiences.”

He says the film will star Matt Angel (who has been on R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour, CSI Miami and CSI New York) and Morgan Taylor Campbell (who has been on Super Natural, Spooksville and The Killing).

“Written and Directed by Kate Twa, The Orchard is Twa’s second feature film as Writer/Director, following 2011’s God’s of Youth,” says Summerland. “Twa has been in the industry for over 25 years as an actress appearing in The Outer Limits, DaVinci’s Inquest, and The Dead Zone.”

Summerland says while filming in the valley, Mutant Films will hire mostly Okanagan locals to work on set. He says the Okanagan is building up a reputation as an ideal place to film.

“We have built up a strong crew base and infrastructure here, and can accommodate any production that wants to come to our region. We are so pleased to have back-to-back productions this year bringing revenue and recognition to our region.”
