TORONTO — Actor Alexander Skarsgård turned heads Monday night when he arrived a movie premiere in full drag.

The 38-year-old actor, best known for playing vampire Eric Northman in True Blood, hit the red carpet for a San Francisco screening of Diary of a Teenage Girl wearing a gold full-length gown and blonde wig.

He also carried a clutch purse.

It’s not clear why Skarsgård decided to do drag. In the movie, he plays the boyfriend of Kristin Wiig’s character, who has an affair with her daughter.

The actor, who plays the title character in next summer’s Tarzan, portrayed a drag queen in the 2006 Swedish film Kill Your Darlings.

In a 2011 public service announcement, Skarsgård said: “We have to teach our children, not only by our words but by our actions, that every human being has equal value and to bully someone or for society to discriminate against someone because they have a different sexual orientation is unacceptable.”
