Veteran City Councillor Michael Fougere will break his week-long silence and announce whether or not he will seek the Mayor’s chair in this fall’s election.
Fougere told the Morning News last week that he has not ruled out the possibility of running for mayor.
The ward 4 councillor has been touted as a front-runner to succeed Pat Fiacco, after the mayor declared that he will not seek re-election.
Former Mayor Doug Archer predicted that Fougere would throw his hat in the ring and said that the two declared candidates – business owner David Loblaw and community activist Jim Elliott – would have a tough time running a serious campaign against Fougere.
Fougere’s announcement will take place Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Delta Hotel. Coverage begins at 6 a.m. on the Morning News.
